With Business Productivity Online Suite (BPOS), Microsoft offers a cloud-based solution with the following components:

• Exchange Online
• SharePoint Online
• Office Communications Online
• Live Meeting

BPOS is part of the Microsoft vision of Software-plus-Services. As a customer, you can choose to install and manage a solution such as Microsoft Exchange yourself or you can rent Exchange as a service from Microsoft. In the latter case, the management of Microsoft Exchange, backup, and patching all take place in a Microsoft data center.
