The HP Modular Storage Area (MSA) can be considered as the 'Entry Level' central SAN solution of HP (Storage Area Network).
An important advantage of the MSA technology is that it is based on the SmartArray technology, which has been integrated in the Proliant Servers for years.
This makes it very easy to realise migrations of internal, server-based storage capacity (DAS - Direct Attached Storage) to a SAN solution ('DAS to SAN Fusion').
Because the MSA1500 can be connected to a Fibrechannel Fabric and because this device can contain SCSI as well as SATA disks, it is possible to let the system evolve to a capacity of 16 to 24 terabyte. Furthermore this Storage can be divided by a large number of servers.
