As you may or may not know, there is functionality in the Meeting Workspaces to reorder the discussion points on the agenda. This functionality enables you to change the order of the discussion points, but you can also enable this functionality on other lists. It requires some manual steps which are explained in this blog post.

Deploying SharePoint farms on servers with an active Windows firewall requires opening several ports to achieve a fully functional farm. In production environments the best practice is to manage the firewall settings using domain policies. However, in staging environments the firewall rules often need to be created manually; a task that gets old very quickly so below is a sample PowerShell script that automates this rather tedious and time-consuming process.

SharePoint Designer is a handy application when you want to do quick modifications to your site. Like for example creating a data view web part. When you are working with XSLT and want to create your own templates, it is useful to know the returned SOAP message (XML output). This is something SharePoint Designer does not provide. To retrieve this information, you need to use another application called Fiddler.

There is no difference between a SharePoint Site on Office 365 and an internally hosted SharePoint Site when it comes to out of the box branding. For out of the box branding, you can make use of the SharePoint 2010 theming engine. Microsoft offers a wide range of standard themes (there are 20 themes) and these can be adapted to your needs.

Recently I was restyling the search results and one of the expectations was to display a hyperlink to the site of origin of the result. Adding the site title of the returned results is very easy, this can be retrieved from the metadata property "SiteTitle".
